What We Do

LINA activates spatial experimentation through collaboration with emerging thinkers and practitioners building future pathways towards a good environment for all.

The European platform LINA is a network connecting relevant institutions with emerging practitioners and thinkers who work at the intersection of architecture and other fields related to spatial culture: it aims to promote up-and-coming talent. LINA’s goal is to steer design and building processes towards regenerative practices and principles of de-growth in line with the values of the European Green Deal.

A growing alliance of museums, universities, research networks, foundations, triennials, biennials, and other European and Mediterranean organisations—LINA members—carries out a series of activities taking place all over Europe. The LINA Architecture Programme is supported by the European Union within the eligible countries of the Creative Europe Programme.

Each year, LINA organises an Open Call. Emerging practices are invited to apply with a proposal. If selected, individuals and teams behind these proposals are invited to become LINA fellows and to collaborate with LINA members.

In its work and programme, across all levels of decision making, LINA promotes equality, social justice, equity, solidarity, and care for local communities.

LINA supports creatives regardless of age, background, ethnicity, race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, or religion. LINA is committed to transparency and openness to prevent nepotism or favouritism in its processes. LINA is committed to fair pay and decent working conditions regulated by legally binding contracts. LINA has zero tolerance for any type of sexual harassment and any use of explicitly or implicitly sexual undertones, including a range of actions from verbal transgressions to sexual assault. Should a LINA fellow need legal help, the LINA team will provide all necessary support.

1. Mobilise the architectural sector for regenerative practices implementing principles of de-growth to support the New European Bauhaus and shift from new construction to adaptive reuse, renovation, and strengthening of initiatives for more sustainable construction.
2. Create opportunities for greater visibility and circulation of emerging professionals in the field of architecture. The platform will support the development of ideas and new works and their presentation within its members’ programmes.
3. Link transdisciplinary efforts to tackle climate and environmental-related challenges in a geographically widespread European programme for emerging professionals in architecture and related fields, organised by a consortium of relevant institutions.
4. Get insights into current challenges and needs of professions in the field of architecture – architects, architectural theorists, landscape architects, urban planners, designers, researchers, and others early in their careers – to ensure efficient, equal, and transparent access to support for everyone.
5. Improve mutual support of players within the architectural sector through cooperation of institutions of various profiles to take advantage of the synergy between heritage, education, applied research, and creation in the field of architecture.
6. Engage and involve audiences in the programme of the platform. Through open calls, active co-creation of events, public evaluations, and discussion tools on social media, we will tap into people’s understanding of the world and their everyday experience of architecture.
7. Exemplify the socio-economic contribution and role of architecture and how it can assist in European policy making for ecological transition through practical work and collecting of accurate and useful data on participants, activities, and results.
8. Address the harmful effects of capitalism and work on alternative proposals for social coexistence based on principles of equality, justice, and open access.
